Montaigne House for Strategy, Management and Practical Wisdom

(A project of the Stichting Casa Mena)

The Montaigne House for Strategy, Management and Practical Wisdom should become an internet database to promote integral and applied science in a manner the old Indic, Chinese, Greek and Arab scholars viewed science. This means, useful for people here and now. The emphasis is more on applicable wisdom than on knowing.

Characteristics:

  • Integrated, not fragmented.
  • Not learning trivia and "facts" but learning through, experience, application, review and adjustment.
  • Integral approach instead of partial solutions.
  • Not in search of “the truth”, but of practical applications.
  • Creating opportunities for results, and for continuity and sustainability.

Goals:

  • Better self-management.
  • Building and using lessons from life and practical wisdom.
  • Increase the feasibility of actions and projects.
  • Achieve demonstrated results.

By:

  • Learning to see larger contexts.
  • Finding solutions (not causes).
  • Quickly assess whether something is feasible.
  • Quickly assess what certainly is impossible or fails, i.e. "knowing when to stop".

We have started in 2012 with videos, modules and tools from the social sciences.

The actual starting point is the Eppink Triangle Model developed by Dr. Andreas Eppink since 1993, and in particular the theory of the Hidden Goals as a model of analysis and a model for testing feasibility.
Our approach is like that of Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592) and Ibn Tufail al-Qaisi (c. 1105 – 1185, Daniel Defoe popularised the work of this Arab scholar in Robinson Crusoe).
